This is not every killing. From 2005 to 2015 the Prime Minister told Parliament there were 310 murders and 84 convictions. The House did not publish the other names, so they are not invented here. A name is on this page only when a newspaper or a court printed it, and no finished conviction was found in what we could read. Parliament was also told there were six unresolved cases from 2015 to 2024. Only Soopramanien Kistnen was named in that speech.
On the night of 9 October 2026 Élodie Thomas was shot while going home in a van at Camp-Levieux. She was taken to intensive care at Victoria Hospital, Candos. Le Défi and Le Mauricien reported her age as 27. A police sergeant was provisionally charged. The National Human Rights Commission asked for an independent inquiry. The Prime Minister’s Office said there would be no cover-up. There is no judgment.

His body was found partly burnt in a cane field at Telfair. Police first called it suicide. A judicial inquiry found foul play. The Prime Minister told Parliament that overseas homicide reviewers found the first inquiry seriously deficient, that critical evidence was not preserved and some of it appeared destroyed, and that he was murdered. The investigation was to be reopened. No conviction is on this record.

The stylist was found dead in the bath of her bungalow at Grand-Baie. Bernard Maigrot was convicted in 2024 and sentenced to 15 years. The Full Bench of the Supreme Court, led by Chief Justice Rehana Mungly-Gulbul, quashed that conviction. The court said the jury had not been properly directed and there was no reliable proof he was at the house on the night of 9–10 March 2001. The acquittal stands. The killing has no conviction.

Nadine Dantier, 21, a student, did not come home from work on 25 June 2003. She was found the next day on vacant land near her house in Albion. A man who confessed later said the confession was forced. A scientific examination cleared him in 2009. In 2023 police said DNA from her body resembled material from another unsolved 2010 killing in a southern village. No conviction.

Michaela McAreavey, 27, was killed in January 2011 in her room at the Legends hotel. In July 2012 a jury acquitted two hotel workers. The acquittal stands. No one has been convicted. In 2025 her family and the Irish government were still asking Mauritius to accept technical help. This card does not reopen guilt a jury rejected.

Jacquelin Juliette, 36, of Cité Ste-Claire, Goodlands, died on 5 January 2023 after an operation by the Anti Drug and Smuggling Unit at his home. A judicial inquiry at the Pamplemousses district court has heard contradictions in police evidence. The Director of Public Prosecutions asked for the body to be exhumed for a second autopsy. No conviction is recorded here.
He died the day of an ADSU operation at his house.

Ramdoolar Ramlogun died in police custody at Line Barracks in January 2006. On 16 March 2016 the Supreme Court said it was beyond dispute that he was beaten and killed in custody, and that those responsible remain unpunished. The prosecution failed because he was moved among many officers and no one identified who struck him.

Joseph Réginald Topize, known as Kaya, died in police custody on 21 February 1999. The country still argues that death. This is a marker, not a new verdict. He is not Soopramanien Kistnen, who was sometimes called Kaya in the press.

On 1 July 2022 Sherry Singh alleged that a foreign team had been allowed to work on the SAFE internet cable. The Prime Minister told Parliament that as of 10 April 2025 no one had been arrested. Twenty-three people had been questioned. This card records an allegation and the absence of an arrest. It does not find that the allegation is proved.

Hélène Lam Po Tang, 61, was found dead at her house in Morcellement Swan, Baie-du-Tombeau, on 15 October 2010. Sanjeev Nunkoo was tried for helping the killer. A jury acquitted him unanimously on 31 July 2015. The acquittal stands. No conviction is on this record.

On 14 November 2002 the bodies of Anshi Ittoo, 17, and Tagoresingh Sandooram were found in the crater at Bassin-Blanc. Later reports also call him Ramesh. The autopsy ruled out drowning. In 2010 magistrate Razia Jannoo-Jaunbocus, at Souillac court, found a criminal act and ordered the investigation to continue. No conviction is on the record we could read.

Mantee Murchoyea, reported as 53 and as 55, was found dead at Bassin Cahin, Petit-Verger, Petite-Rivière, on 24 February 2014. People were arrested and later released on bail. In January 2017 Le Défi, quoting a parliamentary answer, said the crime had not been solved. This page has not found a later conviction.

Berger Agathe was shot by a masked Special Supporting Unit officer at the Port Franc roundabout in Roche-Bois on 22 February 1999, the day after Kaya died in custody. Standing orders said those shots were to be fired at the ground. In 2000 the Director of Public Prosecutions asked for discipline against three armed officers. The shooter was not named. No conviction is on this desk.

From 2005 to 2015 the Prime Minister told the National Assembly there had been 310 murders. There was a conviction in 84. In 85 the police inquiry was not finished. Forty-four files were still with the Director of Public Prosecutions. Sixty-one were waiting on a court. Twenty-two had been stopped. Two had ended in acquittal. The answer did not name the victims. Those unnamed files are not invented here.

Jonathan Koo Yam Too, 40, also written Koo Yan Too, was found dead at Midlands on 11 June 2026. He had been shot. On 28 July 2026 the Prime Minister told Parliament that 21 people had been questioned and released, that three statements had been taken after a reward of Rs 500,000, and that foreign investigators were helping. No one has been convicted.

Jean-Caël Permes, reported as 29, was found dead in a cell at La Bastille prison in Phoenix on 5 May 2020, less than a day after he was moved from Beau-Bassin. The autopsy attributed the death to blood loss from multiple injuries. Prison officers were arrested and later bailed. In December 2023 the Director of Public Prosecutions asked for a trial. In August 2026 the case was still before a magistrate. No conviction is on this record.

l’express listed four more deaths in custody and said the official account was not closed. Mohummad Khaleel Anarath was found dead at Alcatraz in November 2019. Michael Louise died at Beau-Bassin prison in March 2020. David Utcheegadoo died in a police cell at Trou-d’Eau-Douce in May 2020; the official account was hanging, and his family contested it. Aayaaz Gungah was found unresponsive in a cell in February 2021. The paper said inquiries were still open or that no official conclusion had been published. No conviction is cited.

On 21 May 2026 the Prime Minister told Parliament that since November 2024 there had been 37 deaths in detention: two in police cells, in August and December 2025, and 35 in prison. He said foul play was suspected in the two police-cell deaths and in two prison deaths. Four people had been arrested and bailed over blows that caused death, in cases where the dead had first been attacked by members of the public. No suspect had been arrested over the prison deaths. The answer did not name the dead.

On 18 January 1986 three men were shot: Cyril de Guardia de Ponté, 54, a field manager at the Medine sugar estate; Raymond Desvaux de Marigny, 40, his assistant; and Aumbicaduth Sooknundun, 62, a retired police sergeant, on the road toward Baie-du-Tombeau. Later reports also spell the sergeant Ambicaduth. That day the police named Paul Sténio Hervel, called Piou-Piou, and did not find him. In January 1999 the Supreme Court, before judge Paul Lam Shang Leen, declared him absent. There was no trial.

On the night of 24 October 1996, the eve of municipal elections, masked men shot three young activists of the Labour–MMM alliance in rue Gorah-Issac, Plaine-Verte: Babal Joomun, Zulfeekar Bheeky and Yousuf Moorad. The electoral commission postponed the vote in three wards of Port Louis. In 2000 the press reported a claim that a death squad had been behind the shooting. A retelling on 10 January 2026 does not record a conviction.

Azor Adélaïde, 49, a docker and activist, was shot in a car in rue Chasteauneuf, Curepipe, on 25 November 1971. Men who took part later served prison sentences. In 1989 Sir Gaëtan Duval was charged with ordering the killing and was acquitted. The acquittal stands. This card does not call him guilty.

Ackmez Aumeer was 9 when he disappeared at Pailles in January 2003. He has not been found. More than twenty-two years later Le Défi wrote that the inquiry was at a standstill. Tips, calls and searches did not bring him home. This card does not adopt any unproved story of who took him.

Salma Bibi Mungur, born Barkatoolah on 12 November 1957, disappeared from her home on SSR Road, Camp-Diable, on the morning of 3 March 2014. She was 56. Police searches did not find her. Ten years later, on 19 June, the Supreme Court declared her absent. A declaration of absence is not a finding of how she died, and it is not a conviction.
She left for prayer and was not seen again.
